Why do you think the plugin is 'dubious'? iSync Phone Plugins are the official way Apple provide third-party developers to add support for additional devices in iSync. Nothing dubious about it.
And why don't you think a developer should be paid (a small amount) for his work? Let me guess, your hard disk is full of pirated software too...
