My Three Travel Essentials

Regular readers of my blog will know that Iím passionate about technology and travel, particularly gadgets that can solve those irritating holiday dilemmas quickly and efficiently. So here is a brief introduction to my top three essential items to take on a hiking or adventure holiday.

I was absolutely delighted when I discovered the Steripen, a very, very clever handheld device that purifies water using ultra violet light. While this many sounds strange, itís apparently the same technology used by many bottled water companies in the US, itís a scientifically proven method that removes 99.95% of bacteria, to make water safe to drink. Ideal for holidays, adventures, or a ëjust in caseí type scenario, this is one of the most exciting products I've read about in a while.

Depending on where youíre going in the world, Iíve found that packing some reliable thermal and waterproof gloves is an absolute must. Sealskinz are a company that specialise in making light weight, durable and reliable clothing, including gloves, hats and socks that are waterproof and breathable, so they will keep you warm and dry in all weathers. I'm a big fan of their beanie hats, which stop you getting drenched in torrential down pours, and keep you warm, without making you uncomfortable.

Aside from these quite exceptional, must haves, one of the most important items to take on a hiking holiday or any other break, is obviously, a good and trustworthy rucksack. There are so many to choose from, such as the ultra light weight, the extra large and specially designed backpacks for women. So when choosing one, think about where you're going, what you need to take with you, and what you can afford to leave behind. I always find it helpful to practise packing before I head off, that way I can fine hone my packing skills and avoid those pesky last minute dramas.
